Weekly Email!
Dearest amigos,
Time flies when you don't stop to smell the roses. This week is flying, and it's a little scary how fast things move along. There were lots of roses this week though, and much to enjoy.
Some really unique things happened, too. Among those, I was offered the chance to help dress the body of a member who recently passed in ceremonial clothes before cremation. We didn't end up doing that, but it was unique that it was offered.
I also caught a cat that ran out the door we knocked on when the lady opened it. She had already closed the door, exclaiming that 'he won't be back for another day!' So I inched around the corner, got into a slow crouch, made a few tactical 'meow's and 'psps's to set it at ease, then I crept up behind while he was smelling the air vent and swept him up. The lady was very glad when we brought the cat back.
Lots of snow and ice had Church cancelled on Sunday, so we got permission to have our own micro-church meeting in our apartment.
Among other things this week: we had a great visual lesson with Berta, an amazing lesson with a friend named Grace, cleaned the church, and shoveled a ton of snow for people.
I learned that heaters are very dangerous when i woke up one morning and smelled something burning. I walked in our study room, and Elder Hill's coat was melting on our wall heater. The same night, the heaters that our beds are pushed against got turned on, and his blanket started burning too.
Also, I'm leaving Walla walla :(
Going to Basin City!
This week I spent a lot of time reading the book of mormon, to reach the goal of finishing it by the end of the transfer. This makes for my first time just reading straight through, and I learned two things:
1. A well set goal is a fantastic motivator for change
2. The scriptures really do become a delight the more you read them.
They say motivation follows action, which seems super counter-intuitive, but it really is true. Human nature is to shy away from new things, but once we try new things we don't want to do, you really will find that it can become something you love. Like exercise, new foods, or talking to people. This is not to say I never loved the scriptures, but it just wasn't something I craved. But that changed once I started reading the Book of Mormon nightly a couple years ago. Now I find so much goodness in it.
I'm still working on reading all the way through (readjusting my goal), but I invite you to read them as well, if you are not already. You can join me! I'm going to finish the Book of Mormon by April 2nd, reading a little bit every day.
Nos Vemos Pronto!
