Have I Done Any Good In The World Today?

Hello World!

[TL;DR Not a lot happened since my last email, so this is just a little glimpse of something I learned about kindness]

The power of gratitude and service is this week's theme. You cannot know the impact you have on someone just by showing that you care.

It was cold and dark outside, and we weren't expecting much to come from a set of doors we were knocking. One of these, a man opened up, and just invited us in to talk for a couple minutes. Just to show that he appreciated what we were doing. We shared a little Light the World information, anf then headed out. That stuck with me though. He wasn't interested in our message, but he was interested in our well being.

Another lady was in line with us at Dairy Queen. My comp said "you can go ahead of us" then she handed each of us $10 for the meal. When we told her thanks so much, but thta we couldn't accept it, she insisted "yes you can", and walked past. She had no incentive to do that, but she did it anyway, and made my day!

Then even more is the little comments throughout the week, like "Elder, thats a nice tie" its just a little boost.

I recall a book whose theme was "you'll never know how far a smile can travel" and it showed how one person smiling at another brightened their day just enough to pass a smile on to someone else, and so on.

So start with a smile. To that other person on the street that could be having an infinitely harder time than you, smile at them. See how you feel in turn.

After that, Lighttheworld.org has a bunch more ideas for being the person someone has been praying for. Be somebody's angel.

Other than that, not a lot happened this week, besides a spanish conference on saturday, which helped me understand where our friends are coming from, and what they've had to deal with, and how we can help them specifically.

Bendiciones,

Élder Duncan
