Sick Conference!

Hola!

The last week has been great! I'm getting further and further prepared to head to Washington! I'm heading out next Wednesday, the 16th

First, on Friday morning, we had the opportunity to sing to the incoming missionaries the song that our district had been preparing. It was an arrangment of the FSY medley. We were surprised to have gotten the opportunity to play, because our audition hadn't been our best run through. Then the morning of, everyone was a little sick, but we said a prayer before, and the spirit was there in that performance. The new missionaries said they quite enjoyed it.

The big one: CONFERENCE! Woot! This conference was amazing. I was able to stay awake the whole time with help from my comps, and I took a whole lot of notes. I really enjoyed Elder Budge's talk about being still. It was a great reminder to me that just as it's important to talk to God when we pray, it's just as important to take time and listen. I pictured a Zen room, similar to the one my aunt has (shoutout to Trishelle!), where we can just take time to focus on God, and listen for the spirit. It's a meditation.

Also from conference, I recognized quite a few people. The craziest being DR. CORY MENDENHALL???!! That was wild. He conducted the missionary choir. Both Elder Gabbitas and I were kind of freaking out, because he was our music theory teacher last year, in a class of 6 people. Also, he's just such a fantastic guy.

I've been sick since saturday with a mild cold, hence the title. It's nothing major, just a bit annoying when I'm supposed to be quiet but then I have to cough.

Each day for gym time we've continued playing beach volleyball. A fantastic game. Low skill floor, high skill ceiling. Overall, matches are pretty balanced. Some of the other players could stand to be nerfed, but everyone is super chill which makes for awesome, relaxed games.

My beloved and amazing mother sent me a harmonica this week, and I've been having a blast getting to play it. I hope to learn some hymns on it to play throughout this mission.

It's also my birthday tomorrow! Woot! My wonderful district sang me a mini early happy birthday, and I got a hacky sack from my home family!

My spanish has gotten to a point where I feel comfortable navigating familiar situations. Our class practices have been amazing, and with all the roleplays we've been doing, I've had a couple moments of "I'm super excited for washington!"

I must stress though, that everything is not always sunshine and daisies. In an email I can't capture the scope of trials and successes, so I tend to filter through to the best parts of my week. Suffice it to say that the Lord listens to all of our prayers. We would have no growth though, if he spared us every challenge. That was Satan's plan. So when you're having a rough day, put one foot in front of the other, and when you get the chance, during a meditation or peaceful moment, look back and count your blessings. Think of all the things that have gone well, and think too about what you have learned from each hardship.

Love you all!
