Dios Magnifica Nuestro Esfuerzo
¡Hola a todos!
I'm really enjoying my time here at the CCM. I've already seen the ways in which God supports his missionaries. It's hard to spend time here without your love for Jesus Christ increasing.
Since the Last time I emailed, I became district leader! My comps became zone leaders over Rama 9, and that left the position to be filled. My district makes my job easy though, because they all rock.
I've notice that I've really been missing being able to listen to music. I've lost count of the amount of times I've wanted to play "I've got a dream" or "Quien serà" by Pedro Infante. Just those two songs in particular though. I think I'll ask my teacher to play the latter in class... Otherwise, since we can only listen to hymns, you find out pretty quickly what everyone's favorite hymns. And listening to the tabernacle choir when Elder Temple turns it on gives me nostalgia and the strange urge to build large structures out of cubes and slabs.
The food is starting to get worse. It's different food every day, but it all kind of tastes the same. The other day they served paper thin meat that tasted like rubber and was that tough to cut too. Today though, there were amazing toquitos in green sauce. And thankfully, my poops are still solid!
Speaking of cubes and slabs, the landscaping here is incredible. It's not anything over the top, but the grounds crew keeps things looking very nice. The trees here are shaped like hedges into cylinders, and the bushes are perfect cubes. Some of the trees look like eggs, with lots of expertly assortet flower beds, and overall it looks very good. They do make a couple strange cuts here and there though, resulting in some suckers and potential witches brooms, but again, it's really good overall.
We had a devotional last Sunday, and it was incredibly powerful. It was a pre-recording of Elder Holland. He told of how we have to be putting in effort in order to be good missionaries. 'If you need a heart surgery, you want someone who has tens of thousands hours practice' just the same, if I really want to be an effective missionary, I have to put in the hours. Stuying deep, praying always, and really practicing what I'll be preaching. The Lord will magnify our efforts, but he also wants to see that we're putting in as much as we have to give.
Today we went to the temple for an endowment session in spanish. It was pretty neat. Thankfully, they had english subtitles.
I also got to take the escalators in the Mexico temple. It doesn't feel quite as out of place as it sounds like the Seattle Washington temple is, but it was unique to use an escalator in a temple.
One issue that's popped up is that my comps and I are hitting the slow part of the MTC. The days are starting to blend together, and for some reason we/I are/am always tired. I've found that I can stay awake if I start drawing, so my notebook has quite a bit of doodles, but I'm getting kind of tired of being tired. We're getting to bed and waking up on time, and always getting almost 8 hours of sleep, but I guess it's just a lot of work to be working for the Lord all day. It's work well worth it, though.
While we drove through Mexico to the temple, I saw a guy pounding away on some drums (I love drums), a very sad looking mime with a clown nose walking down the street, my comp pointed out a group of stray dogs (firulais) chilling in a park, and there was a horse walking around having a good time eating some grass too.
One of the hermanas and I have started gathering quotes in our quote books, and there's some gold in there. People say the darndest things when you spend a lot of time with them. "Let's race desks! Es como 'errrrrr'"
Everyone agrees that tangled is the best disney movie.
Our district has been working on an arrangement of the FSY medley, and it's sounding great. We didn't make the audition this week, but hopefully we can get it in the future, and play for a devotional.
That's all for this week. Sorry if it's a bit scattered. Thank you everyone for the emails throughout the week! I have minimal time on P-days to respond to them all, but please keep sending them, and I'll read them!
Buenas suerte,
Èlder Duncan
