Consider The Lilies

Image
Hey all! Spring is in full swing! What a wonderful time of year. My companions can testify that I say "wow. Look how pretty those flowers are!" quite often. We are in good hands, and what wonderful creations our heavenly father has made! Matthew 6:26, 28 "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?" "...Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:" The bugs are out too. Each night when we get back, half a swarm of gnats follows us inside. They seem friendly enough, though! Pam came to church a third time! She's preferring to study independently right now, so we can't take any credit, but needless to say, she is very cool. Have a great week! I'll be sharing the good news of Jesus Christ's resurrection! Élder Duncan The neighbor's dog, Toby, often comes here. Exchanges, we had tw...

It's True

Image
Dearest friends and family, I came out here in part to find out whether certain things were true. For 3 or 4 months I've been reading through the Book of Mormon. I know now beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Book of Mormon is exactly what it says it is. It's true. I love being a missionary. I am on the Lord’s errand! This week we had Zone conference, we got stuck getting bashed by the kindest family for an hour, and it was Easter! We went back to the Chavez family, so that we could answer more of their questions, and it turned into an hour of out of context scripture and uncomfortable smiles. They invited us back, and said we could have Asparagus next time! But, this one we'll wait for them to reach out first. For Easter, we watched the sunrise on a hill with a few other people. How fitting, to watch the sun rise on easter. The son has risen. Christ overcame death so that we can all live again. Every single person. Have a splendid week! Élder  Duncan . Awesome demolition d...

Pressing Forward

Hello Friends and Family!  This week was great. We met the Chavez family, a wonderful and faithful bunch. They run a church service during the week at their house! They each play a different instrument, including accordion, piano, drums, and ...Electric guitar! (Ooh, I had to use everything inside me not to go crazy) They've welcomed us into their home to share a couple messages, and we've felt a wonderful spirit.  There were still a bit of eggshells not to step on though. Yesterday, we were at the end of our visit, and Mrs. Chavez says, "so, I've got a question. We both believe in Jesus Christ, right?" We affirmed, and she continued "but, you do know that we aren't in the same church, right?" So, dang. She was about to kick us out. Tell us they're not interested, and ask us not to come back. Then she hesitates, and pauses. She's clearly uncomfortable about something. The tension was almost palpable.  After a moment, and with us ready for lit...

Another One From Basin City!

Image
Buenas tardes! Okay, here's a story: We went to a middle of nowhere trailer park, and knocked on a door that didn't answer, then taught a different friend, and left. After driving away 10 minutes, we get a call from our friend Tomas, saying that he saw us, and wanted us to stop by. We went back, and he said he'd had a rough week, but knew that talking to us for 5 minutes would lift his spirit. So we said a prayer, and something I said reminded him of a bizarre story from a few years ago that i can't go into detail on. After that story though, we shared about life after death, and he was very grateful we came by. Our friend Oscar is our most progressing friend right now. We crossed paths while he was walking to the gas station, shared a scripture, and asked to meet again. He has listened super well, asks great questions, and follows through on invitations we extend! I didn't know that people did that! We learned that he's been taught previously by missionaries, s...

Another Week In The Fields.

Hellooooooo Home Family and away from home family and friends and away from home friends and everyone! This week many good things happened. I'm sure of it. At the beginning of the week, the sun peeked out and gave us a little look of what summer will be like. It's going to be hot, then I won't need a jacket. We put a lot of focus into visiting with the members this week. You have the ability to influence a lot of people's lives, and a lot of the time, it's the people you're closest to. The person that needs you might just need to know that they are still on your mind. So we went to provide support to these families, sharing a spiritual thought at each one. Our friend Gustavo continues to amaze me with his love for God and his humility. There’s a lot of people here like that. The sweetest people on the planet here, I'm convinced. Alma 37:44 Conference is coming up, and its like those drinking fountains with water bottle fillers. You can watch conference and g...
